Project: District Department of Transportation (DDOT), Design Services for K Street Transitway
Location: Washington, DC
Client: DDOT
Kimley-Horn of DC was part of a team developing plans for the final design of the K Street Transitway, which features a two-way dedicated transitway running in the center of K Street NW from 12th Street NW to 21st Street NW. This project built upon work completed by the Kimley-Horn of DC team under a previous traffic analysis task that included plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E); microsimulation analysis; and traffic forecasting. The new design eliminates service lanes along K Street NW and with a center running protected cycle track adjacent to the median to protect the busway. The new medians will feature bus stops, lighting, landscaping, trees, and pedestrian amenities. The eight bus stops will be 130 feet in length, include near-level boarding, and feature three bus stop shelters along with art features.
It's a pleasure to have Kimley-Horn of DC on several of our high-profile projects at the District Department of Transportation (DDOT). Their professionalism, outstanding customer service, and expertise has helped to guide decision-making our toughest projects. Kimley-Horn of DC is responsive, able to pivot with new direction, and produce high-quality deliverables that exceed the customer's expectations. They continuously work to meet the customer's need, even when not well defined. They operate as a partner rather than a consultant, ensuring that they have the project and client's best interest in mind."
